CARA

September 2013 is an exciting time if you’ve been privy to “Insomnia”, the debut single that turned the South-African-born singer CARA into something of a pop phenomenon.
“I’m inspired by life!” the local beauty says of her motivation to write and record songs that come from her overseas experiences. Her latest gem “Same Moon” “was co-written along with Leticia Ascensio and John Scott in Los Angeles,” CARA says proudly. Production, mix and master done by Jean Sebastien Permal – all of which makes her latest creation an entirely imported affair.
Great ability isn’t something that can be taught, it’s within each of the rare personalities that make truly memorable music. “When I was seven,” CARA recalls, “before I understood what being a singer entailed, I told my mum I wanted to be a singer. I wanted to be like Britney Spears. I’ve sung all my life, had vocal and dance training, and with a hit single in hand I’m ready to share my music with the world I live in.”
Talent loves company, and after co-writing “Insomnia” with South African singer-songwriter success-story Daniel Baron, CARA’s was scouted by Paul Almeida and then picked up by renowned UK-based talent manager Sarah Jane Nicholson who developed South Africa’s Double Platinum-selling duo Locnville.
For the past few months, CARA has spent even more time in both Los Angeles and London, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the international music industry. “Devoting time to professional and influential people in LA and London has led to the most incredible experiences, and my first album will be a fusion of material I have recorded in all these places, as well as right here at home,” she confirms.
Grammy Award winning Andre Lindal (who has produced for Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson and Nelly Furtado) and Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer Lauren Christy, who helped shape the careers of Avril Lavigne, Shakira, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, amongst others.
“It’s all about hard work, drive, dedication and never giving up,” CARA concludes. “I am constantly dealing with unpredictable situations and clearing hurdles! Don’t let obstacles set your boundaries. I’m really excited for my new release and sharing it with the world”
